Cody Shamrock, a 31-year-old resident of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 14th, 2024, following a prolonged battle with stage 4 liver cirrhosis. Cody had been valiantly fighting his illness for 20 months and was on the verge of receiving a life-saving liver transplant when his condition unexpectedly deteriorated, leading to multiple organ failures.
Cody was admitted to the ICU in Valdosta on June 4th due to severe stomach pain and was later airlifted to Atlanta for advanced care. Despite regaining consciousness and undergoing several tests in preparation for a transplant, Cody’s health rapidly declined. On June 11th, doctors had planned to add him to the transplant list, but just days before the expected transplant, Cody passed away.
Cody leaves behind his loving wife, Kari, and their four children: Ezreal (11), Ronan (6), Aiden (5), and Charlotte (3). He is also survived by his parents, Lonnie and Wendy, and his siblings, Jesse, Jake, and Ashley. The family is now grappling with profound grief and urgent financial needs.
In response to this tragedy, Cody’s brother Jesse Shamrock has organized a GoFundMe campaign to support Kari and the children. The fundraiser, titled "Help Cody and Kari’s Family Navigate Loss," has raised $1,035 out of a $20,000 goal with contributions from 11 donors. The funds are intended to cover Cody’s medical bills, cremation and memorial service, as well as rent, bills, utilities, and living expenses for Kari and the children. Additionally, the money will aid in their relocation to Illinois to be closer to family and ensure the children’s education and healthcare needs are met.
Cody’s cousin, KC Rivera, expressed deep sorrow on Facebook, sharing, "It hurts my heart hearing of the loss of my cousin Cody Shamrock who was in a battle against health and on his way to receive a lifesaving transplant but sadly did not make it. He had a family with young babies, a wife and children left behind – if you are able to donate please consider it, it would help his wife and kids immediately and will help them relocate back to Illinois to have the support of family."
The community has come together in support, with numerous messages of condolences and prayers for the family. Stephanie Anderson Conway commented, "So sorry for your loss. Keeping the family in my prayers and thoughts. Hugs," while Katelyn Smith added, "I didn’t know he was your cousin! He was such a good person."
As the family navigates this difficult time, they are grateful for the outpouring of support and donations, which will help them rebuild their lives after this heartbreaking loss.
