Carl Zava, affectionately known as "pops," passed away unexpectedly on Mother’s Day morning, leaving the community of Georges Lake, Florida, in shock. His unexpected demise has left his family in a dire financial situation, as they struggle to fund his funeral service.
Carl’s son-in-law, Kaitlin Heaster, has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for his funeral expenses. The family faces an uphill battle, as Carl’s dementia led to the termination of his life insurance policy before his death. Now, his sons, Jason and John, are finding it difficult to gather the funds needed for their father’s proper service. Carl is survived by his children and several grandchildren, all of whom are feeling the weight of this loss deeply.
Tammy Weiser Spedden, a member of the family’s church, shared her thoughts on Facebook, noting, "This couple is from our church. This loss was very unexpected. I’m sharing to help this family as I know this is an extremely challenging, stressful, mentally and emotionally draining situation. Prayers also appreciated as they navigate this season of unexpected loss."
The fundraiser, titled "Assist in Funding Carl Zava’s Final Expenses," has managed to raise $370 out of a $6,000 goal, with donations coming from individuals like Stephanie Koss, David Culkin, and an anonymous donor. Despite these contributions, the family still has a long way to go to meet their financial needs.
The community’s response has been one of solidarity, with many sharing the fundraiser and offering prayers. Yet, the family’s plea remains urgent, as they hope to give Carl the farewell he deserves without the burden of financial strain.
