The late Briar Novitski tragically passed away on June 25th at the age of 16. The community of Nelson, BC, is in deep mourning over the loss of this remarkable young man. Briar’s parents, Tanya and Paul, along with his twin brother, Callum, are grappling with the immense grief and shock of his sudden passing.
Briar was known for his kind and gentle spirit, touching the lives of many during his short time on earth. He was a beloved friend, admired teammate, and competitor on the courts, known for his focus and problem-solving nature. His bright light and positive energy left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, and he is profoundly missed by all.
Andrea Levin has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "In Loving Memory of Briar Novitski" to support Briar’s family during this challenging time. The fundraiser, created yesterday, has raised $1,385 of its $30,000 goal with 10 donations so far. Shannon Griffin-Merth made the top donation of $350, with Colleen and Ashley Emery contributing $100, and Andrea Levin herself making the first donation of $200.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Kathy Hajduk Stowell expressed her sorrow: "I’m just incredibly gutted by this tragic news. Please help support this dear, local family if you can who’s experiencing this unimaginable loss."
The funds raised will help alleviate the family’s expenses and provide much-needed support as they navigate through their grief. The community is urged to come together to celebrate Briar’s life and offer their assistance. Every contribution, no matter the size, is significant and appreciated.
A celebration of Briar’s life will take place later in July, where friends, family, and community members will gather to honor and remember the joy he brought into their lives. The outpouring of support reflects the deep love and respect for Briar, and the shared sorrow of his untimely departure.
