Braden Durea Galant, 31, lost his battle to choose life and passed away on May 18, 2024, following a 19-year struggle with addiction. Born on September 16, 1992, in Lompoc, CA, Braden was the son of Cherené Benjamin and the late S. Scott Galant.
Braden’s passing has left a profound impact on his family and friends. His mother, Cherené, is organizing a fundraiser to help her youngest son, Quynten Castellanos, attend Braden’s funeral. Quynten, currently incarcerated, needs to attend the services for closure and support. Cherené explains her plea on the GoFundMe page, highlighting the financial challenges and her fears for Quynten’s future without the opportunity to say goodbye to his brother.
Braden was a beloved member of his community and family, known for his infectious smile and fun-loving nature. Despite his struggles with addiction, he was deeply loved and cherished his time with family and friends. He enjoyed thrill-seeking, bodybuilding, and watching Pittsburgh Steeler games with his grandmother. Braden also found peace in landscaping work and was an active member of Trans4mation Church.
Cherené, devastated by the loss, expressed that Braden "finally has found peace" and wishes for others to remember him with health and happiness. He is survived by his daughter Oakley Lynn Koeck, his brothers Thomas (Brooke) Benjamin and Quynten Castellanos, his grandmother Susan Galant, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends and family will gather to pay their respects on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Krish Funeral Home in Altoona. The family requests donations to the National Harm Reduction Coalition in Braden’s name instead of flowers, to support those battling addiction.
The community has shown an outpouring of love and support on social media. Jennifer Thompson sent "hugs and love," while George Brown wished for Braden’s soul to find peace. Cherené’s heartbreaking message on Facebook emphasizes the profound loss and the hope for support during this challenging time.
