Borrah Ellis Campbell III, also known as Tre, had been missing since October 5, 2019, when he sent a final text message to his family expressing his love and suggesting they might never see him again. Despite the family’s continuous search and initial reluctance from law enforcement to get involved, a breakthrough came when investigators from Panama City Beach, FL, contacted the family almost four years later. Sadly, the news was not what the family had hoped for.
Last week, Borrah’s skeletal remains were discovered in the woods along with some personal belongings. Authorities concluded that he had purchased a gun and took his own life shortly after he went missing. The family is now faced with the heartbreaking task of transporting his remains back to Alabama for a proper memorial service.
Regan Campbell, Borrah’s younger sister, has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Help Honor Borrah’s Memory" to cover the unexpected funeral expenses. She shares the family’s journey and the shock of the devastating news they received. Regan’s post on the fundraiser reads, "Our family is completely shocked and devastated by this news and we are doing our best to process this loss. We are now in the process of transporting Borrah’s remains back to Alabama so that we can give him the memorial service that he deserves and we are welcoming any donations to help us remember him in the best way possible."
Borrah’s father, Borrah Campbell II, also shared his gratitude and the family’s plans for any additional funds raised. "My son’s death was not covered by insurance. My daughter set up this GoFundMe to help us with the unexpected cost of the funeral. We say thanks in advance for your contribution. We will donate all funds collected up and above the funeral cost to charity," he wrote on Facebook.
The community has begun to rally around the family. Borrah’s cousin, Nedra Campbell, expressed her condolences, saying, "I’m so sorry for your loss cousin! I’ll definitely donate and keep y’all in my prayers! Hugs." Another cousin, Doris Hatchett, added, "Cousin, we are so sorry for your loss and will be happy to contribute. Our family is Loved and Strong."
The fundraising effort highlights not only the family’s grief and need for support but also their commitment to honoring Borrah’s memory in a meaningful way.
