Benito Omar Calvillo Jr. was a victim of a hit and run early morning of June 7th, 2024. He was tragically taken from his family and young son, leaving them in deep grief and needing to raise funds for his funeral.
The community of Del Rio remembers Benito fondly, often seeing him jamming out outside the mall. His untimely death has led to an outpouring of support and condolences.
Lala De La Cruz shared on Facebook, “Friends, here’s the Calvillos official GoFundMe fundraiser to help with funeral costs for their son Benito Omar Calvillo Jr. Please help them spread the word.” She also mentioned that many have requested a GoFundMe since they didn’t have CashApp and were eager to help the family.
Lala De La Paz organized the GoFundMe campaign titled "Stand Behind Benito’s Family During Their Grief," with a goal of raising $10,000. She wrote, “Benito Omar Calvillo Jr. was a victim of a hit and run early morning of June 7th, 2024. This tragic loss has left his family needing to raise a good amount of cash, and they need our help. His family is extremely grateful for your condolences, prayers, and donations during this time.”
Supporters are encouraged to donate through the GoFundMe page or directly via CashApp to his mother’s account, $MarthaCalvillo. However, as Dez Rodriguez pointed out, “The GoFundMe is gonna take a huge amount out once they try to take it out, love. We did this for my brother-in-law and it took so much away! I would say CashApp or cash is better.”
In addition to the fundraiser, there have been suggestions to seek assistance from Victims of Crime, as Wendy Maldonado mentioned, “Contact Victims of Crime, they’ll help pay for everything!”
Despite the tragic circumstances, the Del Rio community is rallying together to support Benito’s family, ensuring he is remembered and honored.
