The late Barry was a significant figure in his family’s life in Ireland. His sudden passing five years ago deeply affected his son, Arthur Henry, who was very close to him. The traumatic experience of losing his father led Arthur to struggle with his mental health, a challenge he has been working hard to overcome.
Arthur Henry has organized a fundraiser to support Pieta House, a charity providing therapeutic services to individuals in suicidal distress, those who self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide. The fundraiser, a 60km ultramarathon, aims to raise €500, with €125 already collected from nine donations. Arthur’s initiative is a tribute to his father’s belief in honesty and sincerity, principles that have guided Arthur through his grief.
Arthur’s journey over the past five years has been supported by his understanding and dependable family. Despite this support, he recognizes that many others lack such a network and are forced to deal with mental health issues privately. He emphasizes the importance of therapy and aims to reduce its stigma in Ireland.
Pieta House relies heavily on public donations, which constitute over 80% of its income, to provide free lifesaving services. Arthur’s ultramarathon is a call to action for others to support this cause, helping those in distress find their way back to safety.
Arthur’s efforts to honor his father’s legacy and support others struggling with mental health challenges highlight the importance of community and accessible mental health services.
