The late Audrey Beverly Smith was from East Amherst. Her children, Lisa Skyers and Jonathan Ebanks, are struggling to prepare her memorial and burial, making this news devastating. Audrey went into cardiac arrest suddenly on May 9th and was declared brain dead on May 10th. On Mother’s Day, her family made the difficult decision to take her off life support, and she passed away peacefully 20 minutes later.
Lisa Skyers has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise $7,500 for her mother’s funeral expenses. Lisa shared their struggle on Facebook, stating, "My brother Jonathan Ebanks and I lost our mother unexpectedly the week of Mother’s Day. The week before mom left us for heaven, we were working on getting her life insurance. However, she passed before we were able to finish the process."
Audrey was described as "love in human form" by her daughter. She was known for her vibrant personality, love for dancing and singing, and her incredible Caribbean cooking, especially her beloved oxtail dish. Her sudden passing has left her family in need of financial support to cover the funeral home costs, cemetery expenses, and the pastor’s fee.
"Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant impact," Lisa emphasized. The family appreciates all the love and prayers they have received and are hopeful to honor Audrey’s legacy properly.
