The community of Stockton is mourning the sudden loss of Aniah Spikes, a beloved 9-year-old member of the God Speed Track Club. Aniah tragically collapsed during a team practice on June 11th and was rushed to County Hospital before being airlifted to UC Davis. It was later discovered that she had suffered from an undetected brain aneurysm that had ruptured.
Aniah, who joined the God Speed Track Club earlier this year, quickly fell in love with the sport of track and field. She was known for her dedication, exceptional talent, and the joy she brought to her teammates and coaches. Renee Jackson expressed the community’s grief and appreciation: "We are missing our beloved track star Aniah Spikes, who had joined God Speed Track Club this year and found herself falling in love with the sport. Her love, smile, laughter, and personality have touched the lives of everyone."
To support Aniah’s family during this difficult time, Sheree Parker organized a fundraiser, "Stand with Aniah’s Family in Their Grief." The goal is to raise $20,000 to help with any expenses the family may need. As of now, $1,908 has been raised through 30 donations, with contributions ranging from $8 to $200.
The community has come together, with messages of support and prayers pouring in. Krystal Wyatt wrote, "Prayers for her family," echoing the sentiments of many who have been touched by Aniah’s story. The God Speed Track Club also shared their gratitude: "First, we would like to begin by thanking everyone in the community who has been praying, loving, and supporting our track club. They have been comforting during this difficult time and have been a reminder of the impact Aniah had on others."
The fundraiser reflects the deep sense of loss felt by all who knew Aniah and the community’s commitment to supporting her family through their grief. As they navigate this heartbreaking time, the collective efforts and prayers offer a glimmer of hope and unity in the face of tragedy.
