The late Amy Dillon was from Jane Lew, West Virginia. Her daughter, Tina Helmick, announced that Amy’s lung transplant journey ended on June 26, 2024, just before 7 pm. Amy is now believed to be walking the streets of Heaven with her daughter Erin, who had predeceased her. Tina expressed hope that their reunion was glorious.
Amy’s lung transplant had been a long and challenging journey. On June 25, 2024, the situation took a dire turn when medical complications arose. During a procedure to address a wound, Amy’s spleen was accidentally cut while a new drainage tube was being inserted. This led to significant blood loss, and despite the medical team’s best efforts, Amy could not be saved.
Tina Helmick shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, saying, "It is with great sadness that I announce my mom’s lung transplant journey ended last night. We are still so very thankful for her lung donor. What a great gift she received." Amy’s family had hoped to donate her organs, but unfortunately, she did not qualify.
The community has rallied around the family, showing immense support and love. Tina mentioned, "Thank you all for following us on this journey. Our hope was to share her story and encourage others to become organ donors in order to help others." Despite the sorrowful outcome, Tina remains thankful for the support received throughout Amy’s journey.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Jennifer Oldaker to cover Amy Dillon’s funeral expenses. As of today, $40 has been raised towards the $11,000 goal. The family is urging well-wishers to donate money instead of sending flowers, as Amy did not have life insurance and had been unable to work due to her health.
Many people have shared their condolences on Facebook. Melissa Lamb said, "Prayers, I am so sorry to hear about your mom." Carissa Kerr added, "I’m so sorry.. prayers for you and your family." Numerous other friends and acquaintances expressed their sorrow and offered prayers for Tina and her family during this difficult time.
Amy Dillon’s life and the support she received from her community highlight the impact she had on those around her. The family is planning a celebration of life and is grateful for the ongoing support and prayers from #AmysArmy.
