The late Amina Litto, also known as Amina Rajab Litto, passed away on June 3, 2024, after a long period of acute and chronic illness. Amina was a gentle and wonderful soul who will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Her passing has left a significant void, especially for her brother, Misama Litto, who had been her primary caregiver throughout her illness.
Misama Litto now faces the challenging task of navigating life without his sister, who had been an essential part of his daily life and responsibilities. To support Misama during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Keimi Nakashima-Ochoa, a long-time friend of the family. The fundraiser aims to raise $10,000 CAD to help Misama with various expenses, including cleaning their home, medical bills, rent, groceries, and a flight back to Tanzania to grieve with their parents.
Olga Ochoa, a friend of the family, shared her condolences on Facebook, highlighting the immense support Misama provided to his sister during her illness. "It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Amina Litto. A fundraising has been created to support her brother Misama Litto who had been taking care of Amina through her chronic illness. Please, if you are able, contribute to this cause. Any help is greatly appreciated!" Olga wrote.
Keimi Nakashima-Ochoa emphasized the importance of the community’s support in her fundraising appeal, stating, "Misama is an important member of my chosen family—I have known him since he was 4 years old—and a wonderful member of his communities." The fundraiser aims to help Misama through the next phases of life, ensuring he can manage the responsibilities and financial burdens left in the wake of Amina’s passing.
Amina’s passing is not only a personal loss for Misama but also a poignant reminder of the broader struggles faced by families dealing with chronic illnesses and the aftermath of losing a loved one. The community’s collective support through this fundraiser is a testament to the importance of standing together in times of grief and need.
