Alexis, a beloved mother and dedicated teacher at Clear Lake Elementary, tragically lost her life in a car accident on May 22, 2024. She leaves behind her husband, Matt, and their two daughters, aged 3 and 7. The accident has left the 7-year-old in critical condition, fighting for her life in the ICU.
This devastating loss has deeply impacted the community. Mike Kirk, a close family friend, shared on Facebook, "Alexis was family to us. Her passing not only leaves a hole in our heart but she is leaving behind two little girls, one with a shattered skull, who is still in the ICU. I don’t post much or ask for help, but for those who know me, you know that family is my everything. Please, if you have 5 bucks, 10, whatever – there is no more deserving cause than this family. Please take a moment and help where it can make a real difference. I love you all, do what you can. Thanks, everyone."
Rox H organized a GoFundMe campaign, "Support for Matthews’ Family Devastated by Tragedy," to help cover the mounting medical expenses, funeral costs, and provide financial stability for the family. As of now, $10,923 has been raised out of the $20,000 goal, with 93 donations. Contributions have come from many, including Steve Lamke, who made the top donation of $600, and Moriah Kuehndorf, who made the first donation of $100.
Alexis had been a teacher for 13 years, nurturing and supporting the youngest members of the community. Her love for her job and her dedication to her students were evident to all who knew her. Her absence will be profoundly felt by everyone whose lives she touched.
Matt, who married Alexis nearly 10 years ago, is now faced with the overwhelming task of grieving his wife’s loss while staying strong for their daughters. The journey ahead for the family will be incredibly challenging, and the immediate and future needs are immense. The 7-year-old daughter will miss the end of her first grade, a milestone she was excited about and close to achieving. Her ongoing medical expenses add to the family’s burden during this difficult time.
The community is coming together to support the Matthews family during this heartbreaking time. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in their lives and help them navigate this unimaginable loss. Thank you for your kindness and support.
