The late Alex Debogorski was a beloved member of the Yellowknife community, known for his warm personality and dedication to his family and friends. Alex’s sudden passing at the age of 41 has left his family and community in deep mourning.
Nelson Debogorski, Alex’s brother, organized a GoFundMe campaign to support Alex’s family during this difficult time. Alex leaves behind a loving wife and six children, each of whom is now facing a future without their devoted father. The fundraiser aims to cover funeral expenses and support the family’s needs, with a goal of $25,000. So far, $2,600 has been raised from 12 donations.
Alex’s family has faced tragedy before, losing their younger brother Andrew four years ago. Nelson shared the heartache of losing both his older and younger brothers, describing it as devastating. Nelson’s appeal for support emphasizes the incredible burden now placed on Alex’s family, especially since Alex did not have life insurance.
Nelson’s post highlights the aspirations and achievements of Alex’s six children. Logan is studying Computer Science at university, Audrey aspires to become a doctor, Joelin is an aspiring entrepreneur with skills in trades, Leo dreams of playing varsity basketball, Georgia excels in dance, and little Alex shows great potential.
Rick Walbourne, a close friend and broomball teammate, shared his condolences on Facebook. "Very fortunate to have been a broomball teammate of Alex’s for several years and had the misfortune of having to play against him for a few years as well! Enjoyed many after-game drinks as a teammate, opponent, and a ref over many late nights in the bowels of the Yellowknife Arena and the After 8 Pub," Rick wrote. He also noted the family’s previous loss of Andrew and urged others to donate to Alex’s family if possible.
The community’s support through the fundraiser reflects the deep connection and respect many had for Alex. Each donation, no matter the size, is a testament to the love and solidarity that surrounds Alex’s family in their time of need.
