Aaron Barker, a cherished member of the Cohoes community, passed away on April 28, 2024, after a brief but intense battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 45. Described as a devoted Christian, loving husband to Jessica, and father to his daughter Madison and three stepchildren, Aaron was deeply loved by all who knew him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends.
Aaron was not only known for his kindness but also his creative spirit and love for music, traits that made him a beloved figure in his community. His death has put his family in a precarious situation, as he was the sole breadwinner. His job loss due to cutbacks shortly before his diagnosis further exacerbated their financial struggles.
In response to this tragic situation, Thomas Adams, a long-time friend of Aaron and fellow member of the United Church of Cohoes, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support Aaron’s grieving family. The fundraiser aims to cover the funeral expenses, outstanding medical bills, and provide some financial stability to his wife and children during this difficult time.
Thomas Adams shared on Facebook, "It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my dear friend Aaron Barker after a brief but brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Aaron’s family is now struggling with the sudden loss of a husband, a father, and their sole source of income. I have created a GoFundMe to help them in their time of need, and I ask that we come together to help them in any way we can, even if that’s just sharing this story to extend its reach."
The community response has been swift and compassionate, with donations pouring in, albeit slowly. As of now, the GoFundMe has raised $1,530 of the $25,000 goal. Supporters like Bill Hotaling and Jeffrey Blais expressed their condolences and readiness to help, reflecting the community’s solidarity. Sabrina Stutzman commented, "I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying for you as well as his family," emphasizing the emotional support the community is extending to the Barker family.
This fundraising effort, driven by the urgency of the family’s needs and the community’s respect for Aaron, underscores the impact of Aaron’s life and the collective endeavor to assist his family in the face of devastating loss.
