William Bill, Los Alamitos Hospital— William (Bill) passed away recently, leaving the community in deep sorrow. Bill was known for his brilliance and active involvement in his care decisions during his final weeks.
A little over a month ago, Bill began feeling unwell and was taken to the ER at Los Alamitos Hospital. A 7 cm mass was discovered on his pancreas, and while initial biopsy results were inconclusive, giving hope, subsequent tests confirmed pancreatic cancer. Despite his weakened state, Bill bravely decided to start chemotherapy on the evening of July 31st, hoping to prolong his life. The chemotherapy ran for 48 hours, showing some improvement in liver enzymes, but other signs indicated organ failure.
Tragically, on the one-year anniversary of losing his wife Cherie, Bill’s condition deteriorated further, and he was moved to ICU. Recognizing his suffering, Bill made the courageous decision to initiate end-of-life comfort care and passed away a few hours later.
Bill’s death has profoundly affected his daughter Alex, who has now lost both parents within a year. Alex stayed by her father’s side throughout his illness, demonstrating immense strength and love. Unfortunately, Alex also faced a personal setback when her employer restructured, and she was laid off after using all her PTO to care for her dad.
A GoFundMe campaign, organized by Sunnie Mills, has been set up to support Alex. The fundraiser, titled "Donate to Alex’s Journey of Healing," aims to provide Alex with a solid foundation for her future. As of now, $15,404 has been raised out of the $25,000 goal, with 94 donations. Contributions range from a recent $100 donation from an anonymous donor to a $5,000 donation from Congo Brands.
