Vera Honchar, Alaska— Vera Honchar has passed away, leaving a profound void in the hearts of her family and community. She lived a life marked by selfless service and dedication to her family, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Vera was born in Vatutine, Cherkasy region, where she spent her early years before moving to Talnoye after her marriage to Stepan Honchar. Together, they raised ten children and adopted three more. She was a devoted wife and mother who supported her husband’s ministry while also managing the household and caring for ailing family members.
After the death of her husband in 2021, Vera continued her work for the Lord, traveling with her children to the war zones of Ukraine to offer aid and spread the Word of God. Her travels took her to Kramatorsk, Bakhmut, and other areas ravaged by conflict, where she helped distribute food and offer support.
In March 2024, Vera was diagnosed with a malignant tumor, which led to a rapid decline in her health. Despite undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, her condition worsened, and her children made the decision to bring her to the United States for further treatment. Unfortunately, Vera passed away while en route, leaving her family devastated but comforted by her unwavering faith.
Vera’s children, many of whom now reside in Alaska, are organizing a fundraiser to assist with the funeral and transportation costs. The community has expressed heartfelt sympathy, and many have reached out to offer their prayers and support.
Her life was a testament to love, sacrifice, and service, and she leaves behind 25 children, 44 grandchildren, and a lasting impact on those she helped throughout her life.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Vera Honchar’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.
