Tyler W. Bernath, Montpelier, OH— Tyler W. Bernath, aged 41, passed away on October 16, 2024, at his home in Montpelier, surrounded by loved ones, including his significant other, Nicki Rigelman. Tyler was born on October 7, 1983, in Montpelier and is remembered fondly for his passion for music, Detroit sports, and his love of the outdoors.
Tyler had been courageously battling a rare cancer for nearly four years, undergoing multiple surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy, and radiation treatments at both local facilities and the Cleveland Clinic. Despite the challenges of his illness, Tyler continued to live life to the fullest, maintaining his work as the hardware editor for Tweaktown Software Company since 2013 and staying active with hobbies and home projects. He did not let his illness define him, and many who interacted with him professionally never knew of his struggle.
A beloved member of the community, Tyler was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and enthusiasm for tinkering with gadgets, a passion he shared with Nicki. Together, they enjoyed exploring new hobbies, from testing coffee makers to riding their electric bikes on the Iron Horse River Trail, a place that held special meaning for Tyler. One of his final trips, just weeks before his passing, was to see the newly paved section of the trail, a treasured memory for Nicki.
In the wake of his passing, Nicki has organized a fundraiser to install a memorial bench on the Iron Horse River Trail in Tyler’s honor, a fitting tribute to his love for the outdoors and the countless bike rides they enjoyed together. The community has shown immense support for this initiative, with contributions already coming in from friends and supporters, including donations from Katie Freese, Wright Anthony, Amy Layman, and Cameron Wilmot.
Tyler is survived by his mother, Rhonda Wright, his father, Ron Bernath, his sister, Crystal Bernath, and brother, Tony Wright, along with nieces and nephews. He is deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 3-6 P.M. at Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Contributions in Tyler’s memory can be made to support the memorial bench project.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Nicki and Tyler’s family during this time of loss. May the memories of his bright spirit and love for life bring comfort to all who knew him.
