Townsend Reginald Sowell, Edgewood, Northeast DC Community Mourns Beloved Neighbor

Townsend Reginald Sowell, known lovingly as Reggie by his friends and neighbors, has passed away. Reggie, who was a lifelong resident of Edgewood, Northeast Washington D.C., passed earlier this month, leaving behind two children, a partner, and an entire community devastated by his loss.

Reggie, only 46 years old, was a familiar and cherished presence in the neighborhood. He was known for his warm spirit, quick humor, and his genuine concern for those around him. He could often be seen offering a kind word, a compliment, or a friendly joke to brighten someone’s day. His sudden and untimely death has left his family and community in deep grief.

In memory of Reggie, his friend and neighbor, Tanya Paperny, has organized a fundraiser to help his family cover the remaining costs of his burial. While the District of Columbia Superior Court Crime Victims Compensation Program will contribute up to $10,000 toward funeral expenses, the family needs to raise an additional $4,000 for the casket, burial, and headstone.

Any funds that exceed the goal will be used to help the family with expenses related to Reggie’s home. Tanya, speaking on behalf of Reggie’s family, has expressed gratitude for the community’s support and hopes to honor Reggie’s life with dignity and love.
