Ton Van Der Doel—known for his expertise in motor maintenance and a well-respected member of the community—has fallen gravely ill and is expected to pass away soon. A fundraiser has been organized to give Ton a fitting farewell and to show appreciation for his decades of service.
At 85 years old, Ton had spent many years working in the harbor, where he became known for solving various technical motor problems. He was a quiet and analytical man, working diligently on tasks ranging from engine overhauls to new motor installations. His small workshop, granted by the harbor, housed countless parts and tools that he collected over the years. Despite several efforts, no successor has been found to carry on his work, which has deeply affected many in the community.
To honor Ton’s dedication and contributions, Anne van der Meulen has organized a crowdfunding effort, which has been supported by the WVL board. The goal is to provide Ton with a generous farewell, acknowledging the years of service he offered, often without asking for anything in return. The fundraiser runs until November 8, 2024, after which the collected funds will be given to Ton and his wife.
The community has already shown its support. Among those who have donated are Jan Schaper (€75), Michiel Knopper (€100), and Anne van der Meulen herself (€50). Donations can continue to be made either through the crowdfunding page or by dropping a contribution in the harbor office’s collection pot.
Ton’s time in the harbor has been invaluable, and his legacy will be remembered fondly by the many people whose lives he touched through his skills, kindness, and commitment.
We are deeply saddened as we prepare to say goodbye to Ton Van Der Doel. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.
