Susan Marie Rothermel Marino, a cherished figure known for her kindness, humor, and dedication, passed away on October 26, 2024, at the age of 78 after facing a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Susan was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose life left a deep impact on those around her.
Born in Americus, Georgia, on June 21, 1946, to Dr. William and Esther Rothermel, Susan’s early years were marked by her close-knit family and her love for learning. She attended Baldwin-Wallace College and Northeastern University, launching a career in teaching that began in Chicago and later brought her to Richland Center, WI, in 1974. There, she immersed herself in various community roles, serving on the City Council, County Board, Police & Fire Commission, and Chamber of Commerce. Through these roles, Susan built lasting friendships and contributed meaningfully to her community.
Susan is survived by her sons, John Marino, who, along with his wife Billie, has organized a fundraiser in memory of Susan to support her grandchildren, and Kenton Marino, married to Kendra. Susan’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Angelo, Isaac, Josh, Natalie, and Marcel Marino, along with her brother, Dr. William Rothermel, and his wife Kim. She will also be remembered by her nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and numerous friends who cherished her presence and generosity.
In honor of Susan’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held on December 21, 2024, at Park Street Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has organized a memorial fund to benefit her grandchildren, with a goal of raising $10,000 to honor her memory and provide for their futures.
Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the Marino family and all who held Susan close. May her memory bring comfort and strength to her loved ones during this time of sorrow.
