Soun Im, Modesto, CA— The Modesto community is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Soun Im, who peacefully left this world on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 4:05 a.m., surrounded by her loving family. Soun faced tremendous challenges throughout her life, including a courageous battle against bilateral DVT in November 2023 and cervical cancer diagnosed in May 2024.
Born on November 18, 1980, in Kupcheurn, Thailand, to parents Soeum Im and Say Som, Soun was the ninth of twelve siblings. Her early years were marked by extraordinary hardship as her family fled Cambodia during the brutal Khmer Rouge regime. Despite these trials, Soun exhibited remarkable resilience and hope for a better future, eventually finding a new home in Modesto, California.
In Modesto, Soun worked tirelessly to support her family, becoming the primary provider for her children: daughter Kitana Earl (24), son Michael Earl (21), daughter Kayani Hernandez (5), and grandson Savon Earl (3 months). Her unwavering dedication to her family was a testament to her selflessness and strength.
In her final years, Soun’s health struggles placed a significant financial burden on her family, who are now facing overdue rent and the threat of eviction. To help alleviate this burden, a fundraiser organized by Leang Lao has been set up, with a goal of $25,000. Thus far, $5 has been raised by an anonymous donor.
Soun Im will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind heart, and the generosity she extended to others. Her legacy of love and care will continue to inspire all who knew her. A memorial service to honor her life will be announced at a later date.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Soun’s family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in the memories they shared with her, and may her soul rest in peace.
