Sophath Sok, a beloved figure within the Cambodian community in Elyria, Ohio, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and dedication. Sophath, also known to many as Sophie, passed away on Monday night, September 16, 2024, after bravely battling kidney cancer and liver failure. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments.
Originally from Cambodia, Sophath relocated to the United States, where she built a family and a life full of cherished memories. She is survived by her two sons, Steven and Chris, her daughter-in-law Phalla, and her three grandchildren: Janisa, Gianna, and Honest. Her late husband, Pradith Sok, who passed away just two months ago, shared with her a deep connection to their community and the Buddhist Temple in Elyria, where they both actively volunteered.
Sophath’s dedication to her family and community was well known, and her kindness touched the lives of many. She was a constant presence at the temple, helping with various programs and events, and her contributions to the Cambodian community will not be forgotten.
In the wake of this tragedy, Sophath’s family is seeking support to manage the financial challenges that come with laying her to rest. A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by her son, Chris Sok, to help cover the costs of cremation, relocating her remains, and honoring her memory. As of today, $205 has been raised out of a $10,000 goal.
Messages of condolence have poured in on social media. E-Monee Dior expressed, "Sorry for ur loss unc prayers to u and the family." Mike Ellivlem shared his heartfelt words, "My condolence to you and your family."
The loss of Sophath Sok is deeply felt by her family, friends, and the entire community she touched. We extend our thoughts and prayers to her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. May she rest in peace.
