Shuru Zhang, La Puente, CA— Shuru Zhang, aged 51, tragically passed away after a devastating accident caused by a 20-year-old drunk driver driving the wrong way on a highway. Shuru was in the car with her daughter, Julia, who is currently recovering in the Palmsdale Trauma ICU after sustaining serious injuries.
The accident occurred just after a joyful moment; Shuru had taken Julia to her driver’s license exam, where Julia passed, and they were on their way home to celebrate with family. Shuru was extremely proud of her daughter’s achievement.
Shuru leaves behind her husband, a hardworking and dedicated man, and two daughters, Ying and Julia. The family’s journey has been one of incredible perseverance. Originally from China, Shuru and her family moved to Mexico as they awaited an immigration path to the United States. After 10 years of hard work, they finally immigrated to the U.S. with the hope of a better future. Ying, the eldest, faced the challenges of adjusting to new schools and learning new languages both in Mexico and the U.S., while Julia overcame similar hurdles. Despite these difficulties, both daughters excelled academically, with Ying attending Grand Canyon University and Julia beginning her freshman year at UC Santa Barbara.
A fundraiser has been set up to help with the funeral expenses for Shuru Zhang and medical costs for Julia. The community has already contributed generously, raising over $1,370 so far.
