Shamar Roberson, known fondly as “Swaee” by his loved ones, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Chapel Hill, NC. His family and community are heartbroken by the loss of a young man who was deeply devoted to his family and faith.
Shamar had been quietly battling non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver for over six years, only receiving the diagnosis in September 2023. Despite extensive efforts to place him on a transplant list, Shamar’s health deteriorated, and in April 2024, doctors at UNC Hospitals gave him a prognosis of 6-9 months to live. His family, led by his brother Samaritan Roberson, did everything in their power to provide him with care, but sadly, time ran out.
To honor Shamar’s memory, Samaritan Roberson has organized a fundraiser with a goal of $8,000 to help cover the cost of his funeral. The fundraiser has seen an outpouring of support from friends, family, and the community, raising $325 so far. Notable donations include $100 from Trilaine Massey, another $100 from Brianna Tate, $25 from Carolyn Bowling, and an anonymous contribution of $100.
