Ruby C Boyd, Philadelphia, PA— Ruby C Boyd passed away on October 25th at the age of 105. A trailblazer in her field, she was the first Black librarian in the city of Philadelphia and the first Black librarian in the school district. Ruby dedicated her life to serving others, making significant contributions to her community through her work at Mother Bethel AME Church and as a devoted AKA Diamond Soror.
Her granddaughter, April Smith, has started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses, with a goal of $10,000. Unfortunately, Ruby’s financial resources were depleted while in a nursing home, leaving her family to navigate the burden of final arrangements. The service is scheduled for Friday, November 8th, with funds needed by Wednesday to ensure the service proceeds as planned.
The community remembers Ruby not only for her professional achievements but also for her unwavering commitment to helping others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Ruby C Boyd’s family during this challenging time.
