Ron Smith, Thousand Oaks, CA—Our hearts are broken from the sudden, tragic loss of the most loving husband, father, uncle, and brother-in-law, Ron Smith, who passed away at the age of 55. The community is deeply saddened by his untimely death.
Ron was known for his super social, fun-loving, and successful personality. He was a faith-filled man, always striving for greatness in all areas of his life. He built a successful business and led a team with incredible drive and determination. However, Ron faced severe depression and paralyzing anxiety attacks, which he hid behind his positive outlook and "I can do it" attitude.
Six years ago, as his mental health plummeted, Ron lost his job and left his family behind, struggling to cope with his inner demons. He was in and out of mental facilities and placed on numerous medications that made him a shell of a person. Despite feeling lost and worried, Ron eventually decided to fight for his loved ones.
Ron committed to rebuilding his life, setting aside his ego and pride. He took a job that paid less than half of what he was making before and focused on being present as a husband and father. His dedication to his family led to healing many broken relationships. This year was supposed to be a new chapter for his family. They had signed a lease for a new rental home starting August 1st, and Ron was excited about starting another business with a balanced outlook on work and family life.
Last weekend, during an annual family trip to Palm Springs for his wife’s birthday, Ron went hiking—a favorite activity of his—but did not return for dinner. His worried family called for help, and the search and rescue teams, including helicopters and canines, were deployed. Tragically, they found that Ron had passed away doing what he loved, being outdoors and active.
Ron leaves behind his wife, children, and many others who will miss his energetic and fun-loving spirit. His family is now left with no safety net or funds, as his life insurance had stopped during his time in recovery. His wife, with two children still living at home, faces an uncertain future with only one income.
Darla Hoffman has organized a fundraiser, "Honoring Ron Smith: Family Support," with a goal of $100,000 to help his family during this difficult time. The community is encouraged to donate to help provide financial security for Ron’s family.
Ron Smith will always be remembered as a fighter, a beautiful example of perseverance and a true servant of the Lord. His story inspires others to escape the darkness of anxiety and depression and rebuild their lives with gratitude and faith.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Ron Smith’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
