Richard Elmer Scott, known to many as Rick, passed away on June 13th, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 61. Born on November 30th, 1962, in Kitchener, Ontario, Rick was a beloved father, brother, and friend who left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Rick’s life was one filled with passion, joy, and the simple pleasures that he cherished so much. As a long-haul truck driver, Rick spent countless hours on the road, but his true loves were music, hockey, and the time he spent with his family. He was known for his love of playing the guitar and singing, often sharing inspirational lyrics from his favorite songs with those close to him. His love for a good hockey play or a Calgary chinook was a testament to his appreciation for the beauty in everyday moments.
Rick was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Gilmour, father, Elwood "Scotty" Scott, and sisters Cindy and Angie. He is survived by his five children—Krystal, Sunni, Jazzmon, Scotty, and Mitchel—whom he shared with Sherri, his sister Jo-Ann, brother Bill, sister-in-law Angie, and his grandchildren Shae, Blaise, River, Wren, and Scotlyn. He was also a cherished uncle to Natasha, Charlee, Joseph, Holly, and Dylan.
In memory of Rick, his family has chosen to dedicate a picnic table in Calgary’s Stanley Park through the Parks Foundation Picnic Table Dedication Program. This act of remembrance reflects Rick’s love for nature and community, offering a place for friends, family, and visitors to gather, reflect, and enjoy the simple moments that Rick so deeply valued.
A fundraiser has been organized by Rick’s daughter, Krystal Scott, to support the dedication of this picnic table. As of now, $675 has been raised out of the $6,700 goal, with contributions from ten donors. The top donation of $150 was made by Amy Buettner, who also made the most recent contribution.
Rick’s family will be holding a private gathering to celebrate his life, where they will remember the joy and love he brought to everyone he met. The Scott family encourages those who wish to honor Rick’s memory to contribute to the picnic table dedication in his name.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Richard Elmer Scott. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
