Richard Byrd-Harris, also known affectionately as "Little Rick" and "Freedom," passed away on September 7th at 5:21 AM. His sudden passing has left his family and community in deep sorrow. The family has shared that Richard had endured severe hardships leading up to his death, including a devastating apartment fire last winter and a secret battle with stage 4 cancer, which he disclosed only shortly before his hospitalization.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Catherine “Mother Jaguar” to raise funds to cover Richard’s funeral costs, as his family believes he may have exhausted his savings while recovering from the apartment fire. Additionally, they suspect he was forced to abandon his life insurance policy due to financial difficulties. Currently, his body remains at Grady Hospital, and his family is urgently seeking between $2,500 to $5,000 to cover cremation or funeral expenses.
So far, only $20 has been raised from one anonymous donor, and the family is appealing to the community for additional support to meet the fundraising goal.
The community has been asked to rally together during this difficult time, as Richard’s family faces not only the emotional loss but also the financial burden of final arrangements.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Richard Byrd-Harris’ family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you navigate this painful time.
