Rev. Dr. Jerry D. Lewis, Jacksonville, NC— Rev. Dr. Jerry D. Lewis, a deeply loved pastor and retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, passed away on November 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. His legacy of service, faith, and love for others will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Born in Morehead City, NC, Jerry was the son of the late Jerry Thomas Lewis and Edna Fay Garner Lewis. From a young age, he answered the call to serve the Lord, dedicating his life to spreading the message of Jesus Christ. Jerry was a devoted husband to his wife Debby, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage, and a proud father to three children, their spouses, and seven grandchildren whom he adored.
Rev. Dr. Lewis began his ministry as a United Methodist pastor, serving in Siler City and Buckhorn-Moncure. His faith journey led him to travel the globe for over 30 years as a USAF Chaplain, eventually retiring with the rank of Colonel. Even after his military service, Jerry remained committed to the ministry, continuing to preach and lead at Northwoods UMC, and most recently at Trinity Methodist Church. Jerry was instrumental in founding the Global Methodist Church in North Carolina, where he served in various leadership roles.
Throughout his life, Pastor Jerry was known for his high energy, exuberant joy, and unwavering commitment to sharing the love of Jesus. He touched the lives of countless people through his ministry, always making time to pray with and encourage others. His love for his family was evident, and he cherished moments spent boating, fishing, golfing, and cheering on his grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in his honor, with donations supporting his ministries and the impact he made in the lives of others. The fund aims to continue the work that was so dear to Jerry, and his family and friends take comfort in knowing his legacy will live on.
Pastor Jerry’s absence will be deeply felt, but his memory and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. As believers, his family finds solace in the knowledge that he is now in the arms of Jesus, hearing those words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
