Otniel Ramirez, Titusville, FL — The community is rallying to support the family of Otniel Ramirez, who passed away recently. Otniel was 43 years old. He was a cherished brother and son, known for his musical talents and generous spirit.
His sister, Lydda Encarnacion, is deeply affected by his untimely passing. Otniel, the youngest of three children, was born on January 27, 1981, in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, to Antonio Ramirez and Mirta Jeannette Morales. Growing up, Otniel and his siblings, Sephi Omar Ramirez and Lydda, faced the challenges of their mother’s mental health condition, which led to frequent relocations between Puerto Rico and St. Croix.
Despite these challenges, Otniel excelled academically and was talented in playing the keyboard, guitar, and drums. He also wrote songs and created melodies, and was well-loved in his neighborhood for offering free haircuts and his freestyle chanting.
Tragically, Otniel’s life took a difficult turn when, at the age of 19, he was incarcerated along with his older brother due to involvement in trouble influenced by his sibling. On the night of July 9, 2024, the family received the devastating news that Otniel had been killed in prison.
Currently, the family is struggling to obtain information about his death and the whereabouts of his body. Lydda has organized a fundraiser to cover the costs of Otniel’s memorial and to facilitate her travel to Puerto Rico to bring their mother, who suffers from schizophrenia, to say her final goodbye.
The community is encouraged to support the family during this difficult time. Every contribution will help bring closure and assist with the memorial expenses.
