Mr. Dewey Merle Ennis, Augusta, GA—The unexpected passing of Dewey Merle Ennis on October 2, 2024, has left his loved ones and community heartbroken. Dewey, a beloved partner, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly at his home following a routine surgery. He was 57 years old.
Dewey’s vibrant and unique personality made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture, he lived a life filled with passion, creativity, and dedication to his many interests. He was an unapologetic "punk nerd" who had a deep love for gaming, music, and film, as well as an avid collector of cherished items like Lego, Star Wars memorabilia, and Mego figures. Dewey was instrumental in booking now-renowned music acts during his time at MIT, showing his excellent taste and passion for the arts.
Dewey is survived by his husband of 27 years, Mr. Casey Rittner. Together, they built a life full of love and shared passions, surrounded by friends and their beloved pets. The couple settled in Atlanta in 2002 and were married in a small ceremony in 2011, surrounded by close friends. Dewey was also a beloved member of his local and online gaming communities, where he regularly hosted games and shared his love for role-playing with his friends, particularly enjoying Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.
In addition to his husband, Dewey leaves behind his sisters Karen Harris and Betty Ann Toomey, his niece Jessica, nephew Aiden, and several in-laws, cousins, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Glenda Ennis. His presence and larger-than-life personality will forever be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
A fundraiser has been organized by Amy Davis to support Casey during this difficult time as he navigates the arrangements to honor Dewey’s legacy. The community has already begun showing their support with heartfelt donations and messages of sympathy.
We extend our deepest condolences to Casey Rittner, Dewey’s family, and his friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn this profound loss.
