Mon Maya Rayka Mongar, a beloved member of the Bhutanese-Canadian community, passed away on October 17, 2024, after suffering a stroke that led to brain bleeding. Originally from Ilam, Nepal, Mon Maya was born in 1943 and married Dil Man Mongar at the young age of 12. She spent many years in Bhutan and later lived in the Bhutanese refugee camp in Nepal for two decades before migrating to Canada in 2012 with her family.
Mon Maya spent six years living in Quebec before moving to London, Ontario, in 2018, where she resided until her passing. She leaves behind four sons and one daughter, who are deeply affected by her loss. Her family and friends are working together to fulfill her last wish to be buried with dignity.
In the wake of her passing, a fundraiser has been organized by her loved one, Yamuna Mongar, to help support the grieving family with funeral costs. The GoFundMe campaign, titled "Mano Chamal for Mon Maya Rayka Mongar," has seen early donations from close family and friends, including generous contributions from Lal Monger and Deo Thapa.
Mon Maya’s passing has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew her, both near and far. Her family’s gratitude is immense for the support they have received during this difficult time.
We extend our heartfelt prayers for the Mongar family and offer our deepest condolences. May Mon Maya Rayka Mongar rest in peace, and may her family find comfort in the love and memories she left behind.
