Moeun Chhom, Pickerington, OH—Moeun Chhom passed away after a long and hard battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to her family. Originally from Cambodia, Moeun survived the Cambodian war, losing her husband in 1977 and her son in 1978. Despite these unimaginable hardships, she found the strength to fight for a better future for her remaining children.
Moeun arrived in the United States in August 1982 after a journey that took her through Thailand’s Kawedang refugee camp and the Philippines. Her resilience, adaptability, and unyielding love for her family helped her overcome the immense challenges she faced. She raised six children and was a cherished grandmother who left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Her family describes her as a national treasure, known for her love of cooking traditional Khmer cuisine, her passion for gardening, and the joy she brought through dancing. Her presence lit up every room, and her energy was unmatched. Moeun’s love was unconditional, accepting everyone into her heart and home.
David Chhom, Moeun’s grandson, has organized a fundraiser to help cover the funeral expenses and other costs. As of now, donations have been coming in from the community, with heartfelt contributions from Katelynn Rossi ($20), Soleta Lawson ($200), and Hunter Jepsen ($50).
The family will announce the date of the service at a later time, as they prepare to honor her memory and continue her story.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Moeun Chhom’s family. May her soul rest in peace, and may her family find comfort in the memories they shared.
