Michael Edmund Hood, Raleigh, NC—The community is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Michael Edmund Hood, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, who died on August 5th, 2024, following a heart attack. He was seventy-four years old. Michael, known affectionately as "Mike" by friends and family, was surrounded by his loved ones during his final moments.
Born on November 2nd, 1949, in Goldsboro, NC, Mike grew up in a loving family and later pursued his education at North Carolina State University, where he studied Economics. His life took a sweet turn when he met his future wife, Jacqueline Carol Blevins, in Raleigh. The two shared a beautiful love story, beginning when Mike, then a UPS driver, asked Jackie, a receptionist at the time, to a Beach Boys concert. They celebrated 48 years of marriage together and were blessed with two children.
Throughout his life, Mike was devoted to his family, often working multiple jobs to provide for them. Despite the demands of his career, he always made time to share a joke, offer a comforting hug, or send a loving message, ensuring his family felt loved and supported. He was the heart of his family, bringing joy and laughter into their lives.
Mike was also an avid supporter of NC State Athletics, known for his passionate cheering, often amusingly yelling at the TV during games. His love for the Wolfpack was well-known among his friends and family.
His passing leaves a significant void in the lives of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Hood; children, Jennifer Kleiss and Robert Hood; grandchildren, Norah and Sutton Kleiss; and sisters, Kathy Lee, Nancy Barker, and Marigrace Faulkner. Mike’s parents, Marvin Hood and Grace Hudson, preceded him in death.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, September 7th, at 11:00 am at Hope Community Church in Raleigh, NC. The family kindly requests donations in lieu of flowers to help them during this difficult time, as they face significant financial challenges due to Mike’s untimely passing.
