Michael Anthony Collins, fondly known as Mike and Opa, passed away on August 29, 2024, at the age of 61 after a decline in his health. Born on September 26, 1962, in Stuttgart, Germany, Mike was a long-time resident of Garden City before he moved to Midway, GA. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and a love for life that will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mike’s life was filled with many accomplishments and adventures, from his passion for fishing to his deep commitment to his Alignment Shop. Those close to him remember his vast knowledge, kind spirit, and unique sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. He was a proud graduate of Windsor Forest High School, class of 1981, and went on to further his education in Diesel Mechanics at Savannah Vocational Technical College.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia (C.C.) Collins, with whom he shared 33 wonderful years, including 24 years of marriage. Mike was also a cherished father figure to his stepson, Earl Riser, and a guiding presence in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchild, Apollo. He leaves behind his mother, Hannelore Collins, his brother, Jerry Collins, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who knew him affectionately as Opa.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Larry Collins, and his sister, Cathy Collins. The family has announced that a memorial service will be held at his home in Midway on September 28th at 4 p.m., with more details to be shared by the family in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been organized by Juliann Hessey to help with prior medical expenses and the upcoming memorial service. The family expresses deep gratitude for the prayers and support they have received during this profoundly difficult time.
