Melanie LaDawn Dewey—It is with broken hearts that family and friends announce the passing of Melanie LaDawn Dewey. She was on her motorcycle when she was involved in a collision with a truck as she entered an intersection. Tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arriving at the local hospital in Klamath Falls, Oregon, on the afternoon of August 2nd. Melanie was on her way back to Kamloops after seeing her son, Nicholas, run the San Francisco Marathon, taking the opportunity to ride the Oregon Trail, a trip she had long dreamt of.
Melanie’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her loved ones. She was predeceased by the father of her children, Raul Nazareno Alcantara, and her grandparents, Kenneth & Margaret McMillan and Gertrude & Claude Dewey. She is survived by her children, Brittanie Paige Alcantara and Nicholas Theodore John Alcantara, her parents, Donna McMillan and John Dewey, her sister, Rosalie Melinda Dewey (spouse Michael Caldwell), and her nieces and nephews, Mateo Dewey (spouse Mayu Dewey), Devin Caldwell, and Sierra Caldwell.
The community has shown an outpouring of love and support on Facebook. Brittanie Alcantara shared, "It is with broken hearts we inform you Melanie LaDawn Dewey has passed away. Sam Alcantara also expressed his sympathy, "I’m so sorry to hear that. My condolences and prayers to you, Nick, and the family."
A fundraiser organized by Angela Hulsman has been set up in memory of Melanie, aiming to raise $30,000 to support Melanie’s children with the cost of bringing her home and caring for the house. As of now, $200 has been raised thanks to the generous donation from Troy Duperreault.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Melanie passed doing what she loved—riding her motorcycle and exploring the world. A celebration of life is being planned in the coming months, and further details will be shared once finalized. The community is invited to share stories and photos of Melanie to honor her memory.
