Matthew Nguyen, Fircrest—The community of Fircrest is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Matthew Nguyen. At just 19 years old, Matthew was full of ambition and compassion, working diligently toward his dream of becoming a registered nurse.
Matthew tragically passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, following an incident involving an impaired driver. The accident also left his sister injured, requiring hospitalization. The heartbreaking loss has left his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.
Matthew was a graduate of Curtis High School in 2023, where he excelled in swimming and water polo, earning varsity letters in both. His dedication extended beyond academics and athletics as he worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA and pursued his nursing aspirations by studying at PLU and TCC while working as a CNA at a nursing home.
Matthew’s compassionate and loving nature touched the lives of his family, close friends, girlfriend, and many others who cherished his presence.
A fundraiser organized by Cathryn Carini is helping support Matthew’s family with funeral expenses, medical bills, and legal costs. So far, $445 has been raised from eight generous donations. Contributors include Janette Cardenas with $200 and others who have shared their heartfelt support.
The Fircrest community and beyond are encouraged to contribute and support the Nguyen family during this profoundly challenging time. No parent should endure the pain of losing a child.
Our hearts go out to Matthew’s family, friends, and loved ones. May they find comfort and strength during this sorrowful time.
