Mat Wyckoff, Graniteville, SC—Mat Wyckoff has passed away after a difficult and unexpected battle with cancer. He was known for his strong dedication to his family and his role as a supportive brother to his siblings, Andrew and Samantha. Mat took on the responsibility of caring for Samantha at just 21 years old, becoming her legal guardian after their mother passed away from cancer at the age of 50. Throughout their lives, they remained each other’s closest support system.
The community has been deeply affected by Mat’s passing, and heartfelt messages have been pouring in from friends and acquaintances. Carl Culpepper shared, “This one hits hard. Me and Mat went to school together as kids, went through EMT school together and he played a huge role in talking me into joining the fire department. From backing the rescue truck into my truck, running the first call in the new Rescue 25, and many more memories I can’t mention on here. All which have made a huge impact on my life.”
Others have expressed their shock and sorrow, including Allesondra Paige Knight who wrote, “Wait what?! You can’t be serious?!” Dana McCoy added, “A rough one definitely we been through a lot together. Prayers to the family.”
Mat’s passing has left his family in financial hardship, and a fundraiser has been organized by Ciara Timblin to help cover the costs of his funeral and cremation. As of now, generous donations have been received, including contributions from Shelley Kobuck, Travis Henson, Julie M. Walk, and Michael Scott Stephens. The goal is to provide Mat with a proper ceremony to honor his life.
We extend our deepest condolences to Mat’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you navigate this heartbreaking loss.
