She had previously battled ovarian cancer and had overcome it. However, on December 8th, 2024, she was admitted to the hospital after a tumor was found in the back of her head. Despite a successful surgery on December 16th, 2024, complications during recovery led to her heart stopping, and she was put into a medically induced coma. Unfortunately, her health continued to deteriorate, and she passed away on December 17th.
Her daughter, Alexis Shears, has organized a fundraiser to assist with funeral costs, with any remaining funds being donated to the Calgary ICU in memory of Marlene, who received exceptional care during her final days.
