Mark L. Sachen, a resident of Mason City, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 20, 2024, leaving behind a community deeply affected by his loss. Mark, aged 49, was known for his lifelong commitment to helping others, especially in the field of emergency medical services (EMS), where he made a lasting impact as both an instructor and leader.
Mark dedicated his life to teaching and mentoring countless students, working as an EMT instructor at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and serving in leadership roles within the Iowa Emergency Medical Service Association (IEMSA). His efforts were instrumental in advancing EMS services in Iowa, including the passing of legislation that recognized EMS as an essential service.
In addition to his professional contributions, Mark was a cherished figure in his personal life. He was deeply involved in the lives of Christian and Allison Schiff’s children, whom he treated like his own, often showering them with love and attention. His legacy of kindness, faith, and service will be remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at Grace United Methodist Church in Mason City. Visitation will take place from 12:00 pm until the service at 1:30 pm.
Mark is survived by his mother Judy Schade, brothers Christian and Brian, his nana Marilyn “Cookie” Schiff, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Sachen, and other beloved family members.
