Maria Vitca, Houston, TX— Maria Vitca has passed away after a courageous battle with Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the Appendix, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Maria had been fighting this illness since September 2023, when she was diagnosed following an appendectomy in Miami, FL.
Over the past several months, Maria underwent numerous treatments, including two chemotherapy regimens and an aggressive abdominal surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. Unfortunately, during the surgery, additional cancer was discovered behind her liver, a location that could not be detected by CT scans. Despite these setbacks, Maria continued her treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, where she participated in a stem cell clinical trial. Sadly, this treatment was unsuccessful, and in recent days, Maria became mostly unconscious as the cancer continued to spread.
Maria’s final wish was to be laid to rest with her parents in Petroșani, Romania. Her family and loved ones are now working to honor this wish by raising funds to cover the transportation costs from Houston to Romania, which total $15,000. A fundraiser has been established by Kerri Oligino to help fulfill Maria’s final desire.
Her husband, Ivan, has been by her side throughout this difficult journey. The community has shown their support through donations and kind messages, standing by Maria’s family in their time of grief.
We extend our deepest condolences to Maria Vitca’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this heartbreaking time.
