Margaret Evans Corn—The Luz/Lagos community is mourning the unexpected loss of Margaret Evans Corn, who passed away at the end of July in the Portimão hospital. Margaret, aged 88, had been a well-known figure in the area, having lived there for the past 15 years. Her passing has left many in deep sadness.

Laurinda Seabra, who had been supporting Margaret for the past five years, shared the news on Facebook, stating that she had been helping Margaret with her daily needs and making sure she was well looked after. Laurinda expressed her sorrow, saying, "Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly in the Portimão hospital at the end of July." She is now organizing a fundraiser to cover Margaret’s funeral costs and remaining expenses.

Several members of the community have contributed to the fundraiser, showing their love and respect for Margaret. Donations have been made by Lorraine Coulton (€20), Ghislaine Rouxel (€10), Sue Rutherford (€10), and others, helping to relieve some of the financial burden left behind.

Laurinda, who has taken on the responsibility of Margaret’s funeral arrangements, also shared that Margaret’s pension had only covered her monthly care home expenses and personal costs, leaving no funds for her funeral or a pharmacy bill of €356.86. Laurinda has taken on these costs despite facing her own health challenges, and she is asking the community for financial assistance to ease the burden.

Margaret was estranged from her family in the UK for decades, and Laurinda has been her primary support during her later years. Any excess funds raised will be donated to the local Algarve charity, Associação Guarda Chuva, which helps families in need.

Laurinda’s post reflects the love and care that Margaret received from the community, with heartfelt sentiments being shared. Laurinda wrote, “I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” as she appeals for help. The community has responded with kindness and compassion, reflecting the impact Margaret had on those around her.
