Manfred A. Kodila, York, PA— Manfred A. Kodila, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2024. Known affectionately as Manny, he left behind a legacy that touched countless lives through his music, art, and service in the recovery community.
Born on April 14, 1951, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to Geza and Julianna Kodila, Manny grew up in Farrell, PA, before embarking on a musical journey that took him to Youngstown, New York, and Allentown. His passion for music led him to perform in several bands and even attend the original Woodstock Music Festival. Manny later co-founded the Pennsylvania Association of Songwriters, Composers, and Lyricists (PASCAL) in Allentown, and played in the Billy Goodman Band in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Beyond his musical endeavors, Manny wore many hats throughout his life, including working in real estate, managing a Wall to Wall Sound and Video store, and becoming a highly regarded artist known for his space-themed paintings. A lover of Star Trek and a World War II enthusiast, Manny had a wide range of interests that enriched his life and the lives of those around him.
Manny’s life took a transformative turn in 2007 when health issues led him to the recovery community, where he became a dedicated member and leader. He served in numerous group positions and played an active role in recovery conventions, even DJing events. Manny worked at several recovery centers, including Gaudenzia in Harrisburg, Colonial House in York, and White Deer Run in York. He was most recently employed as a Behavioral Health Technician at The Ranch in Wrightsville, PA, where he was beloved by his coworkers and clients. His trademark phrase, "OMMMM," will remain etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Manny is survived by his wife, Laura, two daughters, Jessica and Rebecca, and grandson Julian, all of York, PA. He is also mourned by his sister Peggy Parkinson (Tom) of Mantua, Ohio, as well as other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 17, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at Just For Today, 1337 East Market Street, York, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for expenses may be made through a GoFundMe campaign organized by Laura Manley Kodila.
