Honolulu, HI—Likeke Ibale, affectionately known as Ricardo and by other aliases, has passed away, leaving his community in deep sorrow. He was found in his Hale on the morning of August 21, 2024. Though the circumstances surrounding his passing remain unclear, the loss is profoundly felt by all who knew him.
Likeke was a beloved figure in the Pa’u community, known for his dedication as a pa’u rider and his deep love for his heritage. He was eagerly preparing to participate in the 76th Aloha Festival Flora Parade as part of the Equestrian Marshal, a role that he had been passionately working towards. His involvement in community fundraisers and his efforts to support others highlighted his generous spirit.
Despite the heartbreak of his passing, those who knew Likeke believe he would want them to celebrate his life rather than dwell in sorrow. He was known for his vibrant presence, whether during a simple dinner, sharing drinks, or in spontaneous moments that brought joy to others. Although Likeke did not have much biological family around, his friends and extended community regarded him as part of their Ohana, and they are now coming together to ensure he is laid to rest with the honor he deserves.
Mai Rainey has organized a fundraiser to cover the costs associated with Likeke’s Celebration of Life and other end-of-life expenses. The community is invited to contribute, no matter the amount, to help alleviate the burden on those who loved him. The fundraiser has set a goal of $25,000, and contributions will go directly towards honoring Likeke’s memory and ensuring his final journey is filled with the same Aloha spirit he embodied.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Likeke Ibale during this difficult time. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and respect of all who cherished him.
