Born in Buffalo, New York, on October 25, 1947, Leonard’s life was marked by both personal achievements and dedicated service to his country. After graduating from Maryvalle High School in Cheektowaga and continuing his studies at Buffalo State University, Leonard proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. During his service, he completed Advanced Airborne Training at Fort Bragg and Ranger Training at Fort Benning. His bravery in Vietnam earned him numerous honors, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge, Leonard returned home to continue serving his community through the Erie County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division.
Leonard later moved to the Tampa Bay area, where he built a successful career in the recreational industries. He was known for his love of outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and golf, and had a passion for cooking, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Leonard’s life on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Dobies Funeral Home in Holiday, FL. The gathering will begin at 12 pm, followed by the service at 1:30 pm. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a luncheon afterward at the American Legion Post 173.
