Laquita McEwin, Okemah, OK— Laquita McEwin, known affectionately as Aunt Cookie, passed away on December 20, 2024, leaving her family and community in profound grief. Her untimely passing has deeply affected her daughters, Charlotte and Heather, who are now facing the challenging task of laying their beloved mother to rest.
To assist with the unexpected burial costs, a fundraiser has been organized by Lucy Evans, a relative, aiming to alleviate some of the financial burden. The family has been quoted a burial cost of $7,000, with a lower option available for $6,500, which requires payment within two days.
Services are still pending as the funeral home has required full payment before proceeding with arrangements. Unfortunately, due to Laquita’s status as not being a member of the Muscogee Nation, the family is unable to receive tribal assistance for the burial expenses.
The community has already rallied to offer support, and the first donation of $25 has been received. Charlotte and Heather, along with their extended family, are deeply grateful for any assistance during this difficult time.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Laquita McEwin’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlotte, Heather, and the entire family as they navigate this sorrowful period.
