Karla Draba Ogu, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, after a brief but intense battle with Stage 4 cancer. She was 82 years old. Karla was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, deeply cherished by her family and friends. Her passing has left a profound impact on those who knew her, and the community is coming together to support her family during this difficult time.
Karla was known for her infectious smile, sense of humor, and her deeply compassionate nature. She lived a life of faith and dedication, shaping her children and grandchildren with values grounded in her devout Catholic beliefs. Born in Uganda, Karla lived in a refugee camp for many years before immigrating to the United States in 2001, where she resided with her family in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Karla is survived by her son, Julious (Amuda) Gboro, two daughters, Cicilia and Christine Gboro, 13 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her sister Jacinta (Victor), and her brother Augustine Ogu. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Gboro, two daughters, and infant twins. Karla’s warmth and love will be missed tremendously by all who knew her.

Draziyo Amuda, one of Karla’s grandchildren, shared his heartfelt plea for support in laying their grandmother to rest.
