Jymel Dejuan Smith, a resident of Clermont, Florida, tragically passed away following an incident on I-78 westbound in Greenwich Township, Pennsylvania. On Friday, August 23, around 4:54 PM, Jymel, a hardworking and beloved father, had stopped his tractor trailer on the shoulder of the highway and exited his vehicle when he was struck by a passing motorist. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 42-year-old Akhmadkhon V. Ubaykhonov from Philadelphia, failed to stop at the scene. Authorities eventually apprehended the driver away from the site of the crash.
Jymel was deeply respected in his community and his passing has left many in shock. Several people took to Facebook to share their grief and pay tribute to Jymel. Summers Winter wrote, "Jymel was a very hardworking man, he was a father who took care of his kids. He was loved by all, he didn’t deserve this, he was a damn good man. Forever in my heart, I love you forever."
Another person, Rain Pelote-Ponder, expressed disbelief and sorrow, saying, "I’m still in disbelief. This is hitting his Masonic family extremely hard. He was a great brother, father, friend, and human. RIP Jymel."
A fundraiser has been organized by Zenaida Santiago to support Jymel’s family during this difficult time. As of now, $300 has been raised out of a $1,000 goal. The support from the community, as evidenced by donations from individuals such as Stephen Harrop and Anthony Deen, reflects the impact Jymel had on those around him.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Jymel Dejuan Smith’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
