Juan Pablo Cardenas—Earlier this year, the National War College community faced the profound loss of Juan Pablo Cardenas, a cherished classmate and friend, who passed away after a courageous battle with throat cancer. His passing has left a deep void among those who knew and loved him.
Juan was not only a respected member of the National War College Class of 2016 but also a beloved husband and family man. His legacy of strength and resilience in the face of adversity has inspired many, including his classmates who are determined to honor his memory in a unique and meaningful way.
Team Wanderlust, composed of National War College graduates, is preparing to compete in the 2024 Adventure Racing National Championship on September 27-28, 2024, in Snowshoe, West Virginia. The team, led by RADM Mike Studeman USN (ret), CAPT John Cowan USN, and CAPT Dan Deptula USCG (ret), will race in honor of Juan and to support families impacted by terminal cancer.
This fundraising effort, organized by Daniel Deptula, aims to raise $13,000 to provide financial support to Juan’s family and to help cover transportation costs for the team. So far, $750 has been raised through the generous contributions of Sean Carroll, Rich Lesiw, and Daniel Deptula himself.
The memory of Juan Pablo Cardenas will undoubtedly be carried forward by his classmates and friends, who are driven by a spirit of camaraderie and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by cancer.
We extend our deepest condolences to Juan’s family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
