Josh Musikar, North Dakota— Josh Musikar passed away recently, leaving his family and friends in profound sorrow. He was just 33 years old. Josh, a bright and energetic individual, faced significant struggles throughout his life due to mental health challenges, particularly bipolar disorder. His diagnosis at an early age shaped much of his life, influencing his dreams and aspirations.
Josh had a deep love for the military, and during his time at Peekskill High School in New York, he participated in the JR ROTC. Despite his passion for service, his mental illness made it difficult for him to fulfill his dream of joining the military. Over the years, Josh formed relationships with others who also struggled with mental health, and though he became a father to three children, he was unable to fully participate in their lives due to his ongoing battles.
In the months leading to his passing, Josh lived in North Dakota, where he continued to grapple with his mental health. He tried to work but faced challenges in maintaining employment, which, coupled with financial difficulties, prevented him from accessing the medication he needed to stay stable. Despite these hardships, Josh never expressed thoughts of suicide but did struggle with severe depression. His family, who always offered support, tried their best to help, but the system’s limitations made it difficult to provide the care he needed.
Josh’s tragic passing highlights the broader issue of mental health care and the ease with which firearms can be obtained, even by individuals with a history of mental illness. His family believes that better background checks and mental health evaluations are crucial in preventing such tragedies.
Josh’s family is now working to bring him back to Florida for burial alongside his grandparents, Syd and Jay Musikar, and his baby brother, Seth. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support his memorial and burial expenses.
We extend our deepest condolences to Josh’s family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, Merrill Musikar and Gladass Hongach, as well as his loved ones.
